Description

A hearty and comforting soup packed with protein and rich flavors, perfect for family gatherings and chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup green split peas
  • 1 lb beef ham or ham hock
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: fresh herbs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the split peas thoroughly under cold water and set aside.
  2. Combine the beef ham, split peas, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, bay leaf, and beef broth in a slow cooker or pot.
  3. Cook on low for about 6-8 hours or high for 4 hours in a slow cooker; or bring to a boil and then simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours on the stove.
  4. Shred the ham hock, return the meat to the pot, and sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve hot, topped with freshly chopped herbs if desired.

Notes

Allow flavors to meld for a richer soup. Adjust thickness by adding more broth or water as needed.
